Some people says it was a crazy idea to bolt-on supercharger onto a K-Series engine. Some even can’t understand the concept how it would work. Well, everything is possible when it comes to Japanese technology and a bit of creativity from Malaysia crazy mod mind.
Nowadays people are using more and more fuel injected engine and they forgot about the ol’trusted carb engine. This has become handy and make our mod process become easier. Plugin the supercharger from a compact Japanese car onto the olskool 4K Corolla engine.
This project started a long time ago and has been widely spread among others modder here in Kuala Lumpur. In fact, the charger were applied to a farm water system whereby they use it to pump in water for plants. We are using the same method and approach with a twist of pumping air and fuel mixture into the combustion chamber.
A supercharger is an air compressor used to increase the pressure, temperature, and density of air supplied to an internal combustion engine. The compressed air that a supercharger provides to an engine supplies a greater mass of oxygen per cycle of the engine to support combustion than available to a naturally aspirated engine, which makes it possible for more fuel to be burned and more work to be done per cycle, which increases the power the engine produces.
The owner of the project car, named Buntai from Klang, Selangor. He just bought the supercharger kit from a local seller and asked Pomen Yala to do the setup. We agreed as long as the items come complete.
Things that comes together: Charger, steel piping, weber carb, weber carb mounting, electronic fuel pump, rubber hose, clipping, flat bar (bracket) and cost him RM1300. Kindda cheap with the setup package. Usually the package goes up around more than that. Even we are selling our supercharger kit with the price tag of RM1800 PnP and with setup package.
The project begin with a hickup here and there when it comes to the parts needed aren’t really complete in a box.
Due to improper welding by who ever made it, the pully and the thread nut come off easily during the installation and thus making it delay. We went to the nearest weld shop and weld it again.
With all the hard time and with all the sweat and tears, we finally managed to complete the project. Since we are not the one who sold the charger package, it’s now up to the owner to go ahead and tune it to perfection.
